Product Review: Arm & Hammer Naturals Cat Litter

Today we are reviewing Arm and Hammer Naturals Cat Litter.  It claims to eliminate odors both urine and feces odors while absorbing two times as much liquid. As a low dust formula, those are high claims that we are excited to put to the test. We’ve been using it for about 2 weeks. The bag does not have a zip lock open, so once you cut it you need to clamp it another way to keep it closed. The litter looks like it does have a low dust value.

We ask ourselves three questions when we review litter: Does it stand up to odor? How easy is it to remove waste; how much does it stick to the bottom of the litter box? And last but not least, how much mess does it make.

Odor

This bag claims that it has a fresh scent. It smells like my grandmother’s house; a strong almost like a laundry detergent smell. When the cats use the litter box I notice this cat litter eliminates odors as well as some of the traditional clumping litters, which is always a great thing.

Waste disposal and Clumping

It moves through the sifter which is nice and you can see what the clumps look like. What’s left in the litter box is mostly clean. There are some clumps left on the bottom of the litter box, and you definitely would not want that to be mixed in with your clean litter. I feel the clumps break apart more than other types of litter like standard clumping litters. For me personally having clumping cat litter makes cleaning the litter box easier.

Mess

When it comes to mess, the cats track this cat litter everywhere. We have a top entry litter box, and on top of the litter box, so there’s a lot of tracking going on, more than I would personally prefer. My cats used this litter from the get-go, so there was no adjustment period with them getting used to it.

Overall Review

The odor is very strong and it mostly masks the odor instead of actually eliminating it, so I would give their claim of getting rid of odor a 5 out of 10. If you like laundry detergent smells this is probably the litter for you. I prefer a light scent instead of a stronger smell. For waste disposal and clumping, the feces went through just fine but the urine came right apart when we scraped it; contributing to the smell in the litter box, which we don’t want. For the mess, the cats track it everywhere. Although easy enough to sweep up, its very fine and kind of tough to clean thoroughly so back to a normal traditional clumping litter for me.
